Allow Advocates to Commute to Their Offices/Chambers Amid Lockdown: Delhi Bar Association Writes to Arvind Kejriwal

The Delhi Bar Association on Wednesday has written a letter to the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, requesting to permit Advocates to commute from their residence to office/chambers, while strictly following prescribed norms of Social Distancing, in view of the exemption granted to ‘Self-Employed’ during extended Lockdown.

The Delhi Bar Association has mentioned the notification pertaining to the relaxed guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs for containment of spread of COVID-19 epidemic in the Country. According, to it selected activities will be permitted w.e.f. 20th April, 2020, adhering to guidelines on social distancing. As per the notification categorically provision has been made, allowing the “Self Employed Person” such as electricians, IT repairs, plumbers, motor mechanics, carpenters, to carry on their activities.

The Association said, “the list clearly is only illustrative and not exhaustive. The intention of the notification and relaxation, is permit all the self employed persons to resume activities, provided the norms of Social Distancing are strictly followed.”

It further said, “Delhi Bar Association is of clear view that the office activities of Advocates limited to their office/chambers can be carried on and continued, while strictly following the norms of Social Distancing. As such, the office /Chamber activities of Advocates are covered under the relaxed guidelines and the same ought to be permitted, while observing social distancing norms.”

In view of that kindly issue necessary and appropriate instructions to the Police and other authorities under your command, to permit Advocates to commute from their residence to offices/chambers on verification of their I-cards, the Letter reads.
