The Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi VK Saxena has received a resignation letter by the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Amit Prasad, who had been appearing for Delhi Police in the Delhi Riots 2020 cases.
The letter talks about SPP Amit Prasad resigning from his role as the special public prosecutor (SPP).
The Special Public prosecutor however will continue to appear as SPP in the Shraddha Walkar murder case/
In the resignation letter written on 15th December, Amit Prasad mentioned his tenure for 3.5 years, where he handled the prosecution cases to the best of his ability but said he would not be able to continue.
The reason for the SPP to resign from the post was not made clear, although he indicated that there was a lot of conflict between his private practise and the Delhi riots cases.
The SPP further added that he is drained due to the Shraddha Walkar case which was taking a lot of (his) time and energy.
Amit Prasad as SPP was the face of the prosecution in the Delhi Riots matters and argued in the many important cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
He also dealt with the murder case of 85-year-old Akbari Begum and the Sedition case against Sharjeel Imam.
