AP HC Directs State Govt. To File Report On Stranded Migrant Workers

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh directed the State Government to file a status report on the plight of migrant workers from Andhra Pradesh who have been stuck in other states dues to COVID 19 lockdown.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by the Andhra Pradesh CPI State Secretary, Ramakrishna seeking enforcement of the right to life under Article 21 of migrant workers who were severely affected by the COVID 19 lockdown.

The petitioner has highlighted the plight of migrant workers walking thousands of kilometers to come back to their homes. The petitioner has further sought directions to provide food, water and medicines to the migrant workers and their families.

The petitioner has further urged that those migrant workers who have lost their lives due to COVID 19 lockdown, a relief of Rs.10,000 be provided to their families. 

The bench directed the State Government to provide food, water, shelter and medical help to all the migrant workers in the state and sought a detailed report on the steps being taken to provide deal with  the large scale movement of workers across the state.
