Arnab Goswami has sought quashing of FIR from the Supreme Court against a fresh FIR registered him allegedly accusing him of disturbing communal peace through his debate on the Republic Bharat, News channel by Irfan Abubakar Shaikh, Secretary of Raza Educational Welfare Society.
Irfan Abubakar in the FIR filed by him has alleged that Arnab had designated the migrants who were collected in Mumbai Bandra Station calling them Actors planted by the anti-national elements, on 14th April 2020.
Whereas, the petition filed by Advocate Pragya Baghel states that, “It is obvious that realizing the difficulties being faced by the Mumbai Police in trying to frame the Petitioner in that case, and in order to create yet some more grounds for harassing the Petitioner, the Mumbai Police, has registered the FIR based on a Complaint filed by the Respondent No. 3, which is patently false, vindictive, frivolous, malicious and precipitated with malice.”The plea has also sought protection for his family and colleagues at Republic TV.
The FIR registered against Arnab has put up allegations on him under Section 153, 153A, 295A, 500, 505 (2), 511, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code. Arnab in his petition has contended the allegations stating, “While Republic TV was reporting the truth to ensure that there was no undue panic amongst the people, the Congress party ecosystem was provoking people and spreading fake news regarding a fake migrant crisis.”
