Bar bodies across Jammu and Kashmir to suspend judicial work today in protest against Pahalgam terrorist attack

Several bar bodies across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have decided to observe a complete Bandh and suspend judicial work on Wednesday, in protest against the brutal terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley on Tuesday, claiming 28 lives and leaving several injured.

Calling it a cowardly and inhumane act of violence targeting innocent civilians, the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association at Jammu called for a complete Jammu Bandh and suspension of judicial work on April 23

President of Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association at Jammu, Advocate K Nirmal Kotwal issued a statement on Tuesday, expressing solidarity with the victims and their families. The association asked all civil society organisations to join its protest against the dastardly act.

The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association at Srinagar also condemned the attack, calling it a barbaric assault with no place in a civilised society.

President of the Bar body, Advocate Waseem Gul, asked all its members and advocates to abstain from court work on April 23 in the High Court at Srinagar and subordinate courts across the Kashmir division as a mark of respect to the victims and in protest against the continuing threat to regional peace.

The Kashmir Jurists Bar Association described the incident as an inhuman attack by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists.

In a statement signed by President Altaf Ganderbali and Chief Coordinator Tajamul Chaudhry, the Association called for a complete and peaceful Kashmir Bandh on April 23. It urged the civil society and conscientious citizens to stand united against terrorism and in solidarity with the bereaved families.

All three associations described the attack as a direct affront to peace, justice, and humanity, calling for unity and resilience in the face of such barbarism.

The bar bodies further asked the authorities to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure robust preventive measures to protect civilians from such future threats.
