Battle of egos: Centre assures Supreme Court of resolving internal conflicts between civil servants

The Union of India assured the Supreme Court on Wednesday that it would try its level best to resolve the battle of egos that sometimes cropped up between civil servants belonging to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Police Service (IPS), and the Indian Forest Service (IFS).

The matter came up before the Bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih, while they were hearing an environmental matter.

Reacting to the issue related to some IAS officers asking the Forest department officers to follow their orders, Justice Gavai remarked that IAS officers always attempted to show their supremacy over IPS and IFS officers.

As per the Supreme Court judge, he was speaking from his experience as a government pleader and a judge. The conflict was always there in all the states. There was heartburn among the IPS and IFS officers that though they were from the same cadre, why should they be listening to the IAS officers.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Central government, assured the Court that the Government of India would try its level best to resolve such internal conflicts between officers.
