Jagtar Singh Hawara, the convict in Punjab former chief minister Beant Singh’s murder case, has filed a plea in the Delhi High Court seeking treatment in AIIMS or Safdarjung Hospital.
The petition filed through Advocate Mehmood Pracha and Advocate Harpreet Singh Hora states that the pairokar of the petitioner is not being permitted to visit him in hospital, and thus is unable to ascertain his exact health condition. It was stated in the petition that the petitioner’s platelet count was 83,000 at the time of admission of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and on December 1, 2021, had deteriorated to 40,000, and is not improving since his admission.
It has been submitted that the life of the petitioner is at risk owing to his medical condition and the lack of adequate treatment and facilities at the hospital where he is presently admitted.
The High Court directed that “…… in the meantime the Superintendent Jail, Delhi, where the petitioner is presently lodged, shall get the medical examination conducted of the petitioner at the AIIMS Hospital qua his present medical condition. The said status report be called for the date December 6, 2021 with the report also specifying the platelet count of the petitioner and the ailment, if any, that the petitioner is suffering from. A copy of the discharge summary also of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital be submitted by the State along with the status report.”
Advocate Mehmood Pracha and Advocate Harpreet Singh Hora argued for the petitioner.
