The Bombay High Court recently disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed making a grievance regarding repairing work of Gadchiroli to Sironcha National Highway.
The Petitioner (Santosh Ramchandra Tatikondawar) claims to have moved the petition and has sought to point out the condition of the road. According to the Petitioner, the Contractors are not performing their task entrusted to them.
It is alleged by the Petitioner that the Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer are the ground level officers, who are directly concerned with the particular stretch of the road and they have neglected to take action.
The Nagpur Division Bench of Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Anil L. Pansare opined that the appropriate course of action would be to place the petition before the Chief Engineer of National Highways, who is the superior of Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer and who is entrusted in the task of overseeing the construction of highways in the State of Maharashtra, so that he can look into the matter and take necessary action, if it is so warranted.
Learned In-charge Government Pleader states that a copy of the petition would be forwarded to the Chief Engineer for the said purpose.
