Bombay High Court issues notice to BMC over temporary shed built for Crawford Market traders

The Bombay High Court recently (December 20) issued notice on Public Interest Litigation (PIL) alleging that Mumbai Municipal Corporation has constructed a temporary bamboo shed without complying with the statutory requisites.

The PIL has been filed by one Kamlakar R. Shenoy.

According to the PIL , to temporarily accommodate traders who have been carrying on business at the Crowford Market building, a portion whereof is being renovated, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has constructed a temporary bamboo shed.

The Petitioner alleged that such shed has been constructed without complying with the statutory requisites.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice M. S. Karnik, while considering the PIL, issued notice to the Respondents.

It is directed by the Bench that the reply affidavit be filed by the State as well as the Corporation by January 15, 2022; rejoinder thereto, if any, be filed by January 20, 2022.
