Calcutta High Court: Central Government notifies appointment of three additional judges

The Calcutta High Court has a sanctioned strength of 72 whereas it is working at a strength of 39 33 vacancies (as on1st May 2022)

Appointment of three judicial officers as additional judges of the Calcutta High Court was notified by the Central government on Saturday

As per the official appointment letter following judicial officers have been elevated to the position of judges 

 1.Ananya Bandyopadhyay

2.Rai Chattopadhyay and

3.Subhendu Samanta.

The Central Government notification reads:

“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint (i) Ms. Ananya Bandyopadhyay, (ii) Smt. Rai Chattopadhyay and (iii) Shri Subhendu Samanta, to be Additional Judges of the Calcutta High Court, in that order of seniority, for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.”

The Supreme Court collegium had recommended the names of these in a meeting held on November 11, 2021.
