The Calcutta High Court has disposed of a public interest litigation petition that sought criminal action against talk show Koffee with Karan for promoting racism, sexuality and obscenity.
While rejecting the PIL, the Bench of Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj observed last week that it was filed only to garner publicity.
Filed by one Nazia Elahi Khan, the petition alleged that the show, currently being aired on OTT Platform ‘Disney Hotstar,’ promoted racism, sexuality and obscenity through words or visible representation.
The plea sought directions to the police authorities for initiating criminal proceedings against talk show host and Film Director Karan Johar, along with Disney Hotstar.
