Centre appoints Justice Ashutosh Kumar as Acting Chief Justice of Patna High Court

The Government of India has cleared the appointment of Justice Ashutosh Kumar as the Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.

The development followed the Centre’s nod to the elevation of Justice K Vinod Chandran, the current Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, as a judge of the Supreme Court.

A notification issued by the Union government on Monday said that in exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President was pleased to appoint Justice Ashutosh Kumar, Judge of the Patna High Court, to perform the duties of office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Justice Krishnan Vinod Chandran relinquished the charge of his office, consequent upon his elevation as a judge of the Supreme Court.

Justice Kumar was born on October 1, 1966. After finishing his schooling from St Michaels’ High School in Patna, he came to Delhi nd completed his graduation from St. Stephens’ College, Delhi University. Thereafter, he pursued his LLB from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University.

He enrolled as an advocate on July 9, 1991, at the Patna High Court. He was elevated as a judge of the Patna High Court on May 15, 2014. He was transferred to Delhi High Court on January 7, 2015 and was transferred again to the Patna High Court on November 24, 2017.
