Chhattisgarh High Court disposes of PIL on Lailunga-Kotba-Lawakera road repair

The High Court of Chhattisgarh at Bilaspur has recently disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding the repair of a Lailunga-Kotba-Lawakera road in Jashpur district.

The petitioners had alleged that the road, which was constructed by the state authorities, was not in a good condition and was causing inconvenience to the public.

The court had appointed a Court Commissioner to inspect the road and submit a report.

The Court Commissioner’s report revealed that the road had already been repaired by the state authorities and was in good condition.

The report also stated that the repair work was completed and a completion certificate was issued on June 30, 2023.

The petitioners had also alleged that the quality of the road was not up to the mark and that the reasons given by the respondent authorities for the damage to the road were not justifiable.

However, the Court Commissioner’s report did not comment on the quality of the road, but stated that the road was in good condition at the time of inspection.

The High Court, comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Judge Ravindra Kumar Agrawal, observed that the language used by the petitioners in their affidavits was not befitting, and the petitioners’ counsel apologized on behalf of his clients.

In view of the Court Commissioner’s report, the court disposed of the PIL.
