Allahabad High Court seeks reply from UP govt on appointment of chief jail warder

The Allahabad High Court has sought a reply from the Uttar Pradesh government in four weeks on a petition challenging the legality of promotion of a junior to the post of Chief Jail Warder.

A single bench of Justice Rajiv Joshi passed this order while hearing a petition filed by Vrindavan Pal.

The writ petition has been filed for quashing the promotional list dated 17.12.2021 issued by the Senior Superintendent, Jail Administration and Reforms Services, UP at Lucknow, whereby the name of the petitioner was not found among the promoted persons.

The counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner is working as a Jail Warder w.e.f 1995. In the writ petition, it is stated that Vinod Kumar Pandey and several other persons who are junior to the petitioner have been included in the impugned list but the claim of the petitioner has not been considered.

The Court granted four weeks time to file counter-affidavit for the respondent and rejoinder affidavit, if any, may be filed within two weeks thereafter.

The Court has fixed the next hearing of the petition on July 25, 2022.
