CJI Chandrachud to inaugurate India’s first digital court for cases under NI Act tomorrow

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will inaugurate India’s first digital court for handling cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act on Friday.

The event will be held at the Kerala High Court on the evening of August 16.

The digital court will handle cheque bounce cases from Kollam.

The CJI will also launch several other key initiatives that aim to harness technology for the enhancement of judicial efficiency.

He wil launch “We-Solv Vimaal Solution Maker,” an online dispute resolution system, developed by the Kerala Judiciary.

The platform has been designed to facilitate online deliberations among stakeholders, streamline the dispute resolution process, and enhance efficiency, accessibility & transparency in dispute resolution.

A Model Digital Court Room developed by the Kerala High Court to overcome the limitations of traditional courtrooms by optimising internet and computer technology will also be launched on the occasion.

Further, the event will witness the launch of projects aimed at preserving historical heritage, enhancing research capabilities, and improving judicial education.

These include the Restoration Project of Ram Mohan Palace Complex, the Digital Library and Research Centre, and the Learning Management System (LMS) for the Kerala Judicial Academy.

The Digital District Courts and the Annual report of the Kerala Judicial Academy will also be announced on the occasion, which will witness the presence of several dignitaries, such as Nandan Nilekani, mentor of the Protocol for Unified Legal Services (PUCAR) and Knowledge Partner of the Open and Networked Court System.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate Special Courts in Ernakulam and Alappuzha, dedicated to handle cases under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act, 2019, respectively.

Finance Minister KN Balagopal will unveil a comprehensive CCTV Surveillance System, including a state-of-the-art Control Room, in the High Court complex.

State Minister for Law, Industries, and Coir, P Rajeev, will inaugurate a newly constructed Security-cum-Facilitation Block located at the southeastern corner of the High Court Complex.

On August 17, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal will inaugurate a new Arbitration Centre at the High Court of Kerala.

Minister for Public Works and Tourism, PA Mohamed Riyas, will launch a dedicated website for the Arbitration Centre.
