CJI nominates 21 Benches to sit during partial working days of Supreme Court

Chief Justice of India BR Gavai has nominated 21 two-judge Benches to hear cases during the partial working days of the Supreme Court, from May 26 to July 13, 2025.

In its 2025 calendar, the Supreme Court of India has rechristened ‘summer vacation’ to ‘partial working days’.

From May 26 to June 1, five Benches will conduct proceedings. These include the Benches of CJI Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Dipankar Datta, Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sanjay Kumar, Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Aravind Kumar, and Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma.

From June 2 to 8, three Benches will hear the cases. These include the Benches of Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and SVN Bhatti, and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Augustine George Masih, will hear the cases.

From June 9 to 15, two Benches, comprising Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra & Justice Manmohan and Justice SVN Bhatti & Justice PB Varale, will conduct the proceedings.

During the period between June 16 abd 22, two Benches, comprising Justice Ujjal Bhuyan & Justice Manmohan and Justice Sandeep Mehta & Justice PB Varale, will sit in the Apex Court.

From June 23 to 29, three Benches will hear the cases. These include the Benches of Justice KV Viswanathan and Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice K Vinod Chandran, and Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.

During the period between June 30 and July 6, three Benches will conduct the proceedings. These include the Benches of Justice MM Sundresh and Justice K Vinod Chandran, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice R Mahadevan, and Justice Manoj Misra and Justice N Kotiswar Singh.

From July 7 to 13, three Benches will hear the cases. These include the Benches of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice KV Viswanathan, and Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice R Mahadevan.

During the partial working days of the Apex Court, the Registry will remain open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm for all officers and staff on all working days, excluding Saturdays (other than July 12, 2025), Sundays, and other holidays.

Non-clerical members will be working from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on these days as well.

The Supreme Court will resume it’s regular functioning on July 14, 2025.
