The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi University to clarify if some supplementary exams have been done away with, as per its law faculty’s notification (2017). The court also wanted to know if that notification had been approved by the Bar Council of India.
A single-judge bench of Justice Pratibha M. Singh asked the university to file a proper reply, with clarification of the supplementary rules of 2017.
The Court was hearing a petition filed by Advocates Amit Kumar Sharma & Satyam Singh, and Senior Advocate Justice Rajesh Tandon appeared in the matter challenging the supplementary rules 2017 of the faculty of Law, Delhi University. The Supplementary Rule 2017 states that Delhi University has done away with the opportunity of reappearing and attempting supplementary examination for any backlog paper that they may have from the first, second, third, and fourth semesters.
The petition stated, “students can now only attempt and appear for backlog paper/s that they might have in fifth and sixth semester exclusively, thereby diluting the principle of supplementary examination and also forcing the petitioners to appear in the regular course of the examination, thereby causing the petitioner to wait and lose 9- 10 months for graduation.”
The matter will be heard next on September 10, 2020.
