New Delhi (ILNS): The Madras High Court has slammed BSNL for refusing a compassionate-ground appointment for a deserving candidate, saying that it was its responsibility and not temple “prasad” or an act of charity.
A plea was filed by G Vijaya Prassana seeking employment under compassionate grounds after the death of his father, who was an employee of BSNL. Prassana’s father K Gajendran died in 2003 while working as a telegraph man in BSNL.
It was after the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) denied the petitioner the benefit of compassionate appointment, that he moved the court.

The two member bench of Justice M. Sathyanarayanan and Justice R. Hemalatha stated that the death of a sole breadwinner will cause a huge imbalance in any family especially when the family is in the low-income group.
The high court has revoked the CAT order and asked BSNL to consider the compassionate appointment within three months. The court order said:
“The essence of the process of compassionate appointment is empathy but to the contrary, there has been only apathy in the case.”
