The Supreme Court on Friday was informed by the Centre that the compensation have been awarded to the persons who have undergone DePuy ASR hip implant surgeries since 2005.
The bench comprising CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justice S K Kaul after taking note of the submissions of the Centre disposed of the petition directing Centre to give publicity to the scheme for compensation for the benefit of those affected by the hip implant surgeries.
The court was hearing the plea by Arun Kumar Goenka seeking investigation into the DePuy ASR hip implant surgeries by Johnson & Johnson. Goenka had also sought a direction to the Centre to publicize across the country about the recall of DePuy ASR implant and set up a feasible procedure for the protection of 14,525 persons who received faulty implants.
