A criminal complaint has been filed in Bihar alleging cheating by Patanjali’s Founder Baba Ramdev and its CEO, Acharya Balkrishna.
The complaint has been filed by a social activist Tamanna Hashmi, before a Court in Muzaffarpur, Bihar seeking registration of FIR for certain offences under the Indian Penal Code, including Cheating (Section 420), Criminal Conspiracy (Sec 120B), malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous and to life (Sec 270) and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace (Sec 504).
According to the complainant Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna have conspired to cheat the Government and the entire Nation through its false claims. They have intentionally taken such steps that may be a threat to life or may prove fatal for many people, and have therefore betrayed the entire country.
Hashmi submitted that Ramdev and Balkrishna claimed to have prepared “Coronil tablet” to cure COVID-19, which is nothing but misleading. The Court will hear the matter on June 30, 2020.
This comes after Patanjali Ayurved launched its medicine ‘Coronil and Swasari’ and claimed that the medicines had 100% favourable results in curing COVID-19 during its clinical trials.
After such declaration was made, the Ministry of AYUSH clarified that its not aware of the claims and details of the stated scientific study, and asked the Company to submit its medicines for government verification and stop making any claims regarding the same.
The government therefore asked Patanjali Ayurved to stop advertising these Ayurvedic medicines that allegedly cure Covid-19, until the Ayush Ministry examines the medicines.
