A Delhi court on Friday asked Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to appear before it on July 16 in connection with a defamation case filed by BJP leader Rajiv Babbar over his reported comment of rigging voters’ record.

The court had earlier granted bail to AAP leaders Atishi Marlena, Manoj Kumar and Sushil Gupta on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 each in connection with the case.

The court was acting on the plea by Babbar who has sought action against Kejriwal and others for tarnishing the image of BJP by chastising the party for the omission of names of voters from the electoral rolls in Delhi.

“The statement of the accused (Arvind Kejriwal) was made with ulterior motives to degrade the reputation of the BJP to gain cheap political mileage in the upcoming elections,” Babbar said in his plea.
