Delhi court discharges Sharjeel Imam and Asif Iqbal Tanha in Jamia violence case

A Delhi court has today finally discharged Sharjeel Imam in a case pertaining to the violence that took place at Jamia Millia Islamia in December 2019.

The Additional Sessions Judge Arul Verma from the Saket Court has given discharge to Sharjeel Imam.

The Additional Sessions Judge has also discharged Asif Iqbal Tanha in the same case.

Tanha and Imam were accused by the the police of Delhi for rioting, unlawful assembly and several other offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The duo have been discharged but framed the charges of unlawful assembly and rioting against one Mohammed Iliyas.

The duo had been prosecuted under FIR alleging offences of rioting and unlawful assembly. The cases under Section 143, 147, 148, 149, 186, 353, 332, 333, 308, 427, 435, 323, 341, 120B and 34 of IPC were invoked in the case

A detailed order is still waited.

Imam will however will remains in custody in other FIRs registered against him concerning 2020 North-East Delhi riots.

Tanha, however, is out on bail.
