The Delhi government has notified the appointments of seven principal judges for family courts of various district courts. The Delhi High Court had earlier directed the AAP government to notify the appointments recommended by the High Court, which had been approved by the Cabinet of Delhi government. It also sought a response from the Delhi government on why appointments were not made despite the HC making recommendations to that effect. More than two months back, the Delhi High Court had made several recommendations for appointment of judges to various family courts but thewe were not adhered to.
The government told the high court that the appointm .. were stalled by the principal secretary, law department. It said that despite a SC ruling, the files have not been processed even though nthe AAP government had approved the names for notification. The HC said it was passing the interim order keeping in the urgent requirement of judges in the family courts many of which were non funvtional due to lack of judges. As a result, there was a huge backlog of cases
