Delhi High Court has directed the Medical Director of the LNJP Hospital in Delhi to assign a nurse to work in another department as she is vulnerable to the COVID-19 because she was recently diagnosed with ‘kidney atrophy’.
Justice Asha Menon was hearing a plea filed by Waheeda Rehman a Nurse from LNJP Hospital, now declared as COVID-19 exclusive Hospital whereas, she has been diagnosed with ‘kidney atrophy’.
Advocate Payal Bahal appearing for the petitioner submitted before the Court that, as she is diagnosed with ‘kidney atrophy’, her only one kidney is functional resulting in her being in a high-risk category and vulnerable to COVID-19 that may result into serious consequences.
The court directed the nurse to submit a representation to the Medical Director, LNJP Hospital. Whereas, Justice Menon also stated that, “…and on receipt of such representation (by the nurse), the Medical Director shall dispose of the same immediately and favorably, so that in this time of emergency and severe staff crunch, the petitioner’s services could be utilized to take care of other patients at the hospital.”
