Delhi HC Directs Nodel Officer To Ensure Compliance Of Lockdown And Guidelines Issued By Government

The Delhi High Court on Monday has directed the nodal officer to ensure strict compliance of the lockdown and act with the aid of the Facility Management Service Agency and Common Wealth Games Village Association (CGWVA).

Justice Yogesh Khanna was hearing a petition filed seeking directions for the Nodal officer to be permitted to take all necessary measures to ensure strict compliance of the lockdown and other related guidelines issued by the government of India with the help of Facility Management Service Agency and other CWGVAOA staff within the commonwealth games village area.

The petitioner submitted before the court that amid the outbreak of COVID-19 in Delhi infecting several thousands of people in the city, Delhi Government started identifying hotspots in the city and started sealing them. In view of the limited powers of the Nodal Officer, and the commonwealth village being a gated colony, the aforesaid directives issued by the Government of India and the State of NCT of Delhi were given scant regards by several residents of the village.

It was also submitted before the court that residents are continuing with their walks and jogging within the village and in the adjoining DDA park with regular daily access to it from the access gate in commonwealth games village (CWGV) regulated by the guards of CWGV and several residents have even started stepping out of their homes for daily walks and jogging within the village and also in the adjoining DDA park.

The Court has directed “The Nodal Officer to act with the aid and assistance of the Facility Management Service Agency and CWGVAOA staff to keep a check on any violations, within the village, of the guidelines issued by the Government of India as well as the Government of the NCT of Delhi and to report the matter to the concerned local authority, wherever such action is deemed appropriate.”

While disposing of the application the court has also sought a report in this regard to be filed within four weeks.
