The Delhi High Court on Monday (September 16) dismissed the pleas by Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Oscar Fernandes challenging Income Tax (IT) department notice to reopen the FY 2011-2012 tax assessment file of Young Indian-Associated Journals Ltd.
The IT dept had earlier said to the court that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi hid important information to deflect the taxes.
Gandhis are the major shareholder in Young Indian which has bought Associated Journals Limited (AJL).
The Young Indian had earlier pleaded to the court to halt the recovery of tax and interest of Rs 249.15 crore raised in pursuant to a notice issued under section 156 of the IT Act for the assessment year 2011-12.
