The Delhi High Court on Friday (August 10) directed Centre to file a counter affidavit within four weeks on a PIL challenging the prohibition of married female candidates into the Judge Advocate General (JAG) service of the Indian Army.

The PIL has originally sought a declaration that such prohibition was unconstitutional and after that a consequential prayer for issuance of a writ of mandamus was also sought.

On the earlier hearings, the Centre had told the court that married men were also barred from being recruited in the army for JAG post.

The court had wondered how the ability of an officer gets affected after getting married for this post.
