Delhi HC issues notice to police, 2 media houses in leaked Delhi riots case confession

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has stated: “A confession made can’t find its way out, but it has found its way out.” The court was referring to a petition, seeking directions for an inquiry into the alleged leaking of highly sensitive/confidential information in connection with the ongoing criminal investigations into the Delhi Riots case by Delhi Police.

Justice Vibhu Bakhru, while hearing the matter through video conferencing, has issued notice to Delhi Police including two media houses.

The petition has been filed by Asif Iqbal Tanha, a student of Jamia Milia Islamia, who was arrested in the Delhi Riots matter. Asif has also sought direction for the Zee News, OpIndia, Youtube and Facebook to take down the sensitive/confidential information and frame guidelines with regards to media reporting in this criminal investigation.

The counsel appearing for Asif submitted:

“These illegal acts of the respondent investigating agency are nothing but a mischievous attempt to circumvent the clear and unequivocal directions of a single judge bench of this court.”

The bench has listed the matter for September 11.
