The Delhi High Court on Tuesday berated the Delhi government and its administration for not keeping to their claim that while 150 oxygen beds are available, another 100 will be available by today.
The court was told by Senior Advocate Rahul Mehra that those 100 will be operational tomorrow and not today. At this, the bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli commented that it was in the media on Saturday that these beds will be operational by Tuesday.
The bench is hearing pleas related to the Covid situation in the Capital and on the non-availability of beds, medicines and oxygen.
Mehra said: “I’ve already placed the anxiety (before the officers) in no uncertain terms… The next time the court may refuse to take us at face value.”
Counsel Y.P. Singh said: “The government is telling something and not doing anything. They have not filed any reply also.” Mehra said that the Principal Secretary, Health’s statement on the timeline to be recorded. The secretary’s statement said: “It was a problem we didn’t anticipate. We were not aware that we required testing certificate for the cylinders. Cylinders were from donation. Now we have succeeded. We are open for admission since yesterday.”

The court said: “Let an affidavit be filed today itself during the course of the day by Principal Secretary on number of beds, category-wise. We direct the officers of GNCTD to maintain caution and not make statements inaccurately. It erodes the confidence of the court in officers of the government.”
