The High Court of Delhi has directed the Delhi Police to file a report regarding steps taken to reduce congestion on the Sat Guru Ram Singh Marg, caused due to parking of trucks on both sides of the patch starting from Kirti Nagar Metro Station till Zakhira.
The Single-judge Bench of Justice Pratibha Singh passed the order on Thursday on a petition filed by one Muskan Malhotra through Advocates Gagan Gandhi and Ruturaj Patil.
The High Court directed the concerned Traffic Inspector, the DCP (Traffic) of the concerned area and the DCP (Central) to hold a meeting with the Residents Welfare Association and the Trader’s Associations of the area, as also the banquet hall owners on March 13, on whether congestion could be avoided by restricting access to the road for trucks during the day time.
The respondents were further directed to place a joint report before this court at least one week before the next date of hearing, which was fixed at May 3.
The Bench gave liberty to the DCPs to hold more than one meeting in the matter, if required.
It further directed the petitioner and the police authorities to place video clips of at least one minute each taken on three separate randomly chosen days, on a pen drive, for the perusal of the Court on the next date of hearing.
The petition sought directions to the Respondents to remove the unauthorised parking of vehicles on both sides of the Sat Guru Ram Singh Marg starting from Kirti Nagar Metro
Station till Zakhira.
The Counsel representing the Delhi Police filed an affidavit in the High Court, stating that there were several banquet halls on the road, which leads to congestion.
Traffic Inspector from Punjabi Bagh Circle, Rajnikant apprised the court that the trucks parked on both sides of the road were due to the loading and unloading activities in connection with
the industrial area and Kirti Nagar Furniture Market. He added that the Sat Guru Ram Singh Marg was not prohibited for the entry of trucks during the day time as well as the night time.
The respondents were represented by Standing Counsel (Civil) for the GNCTD Santosh Kumar Tripathi, along with Advocates Arun Panwar, Pradyumn Rao, Tapesh Raghav, Mahak Rankawat and Utkarsh Singh
