The Delhi High Court on Monday has directed the Delhi Police to reconsider providing security to Advocate-on-Record Ravi Prakash Mehrotra in the light of the fact that similarly-placed advocates are still being provided security.
A single-judge bench of Justice Rekha Palli has been approached by Advocate Ravi Prakash Mehrotra aggrieved by the withdrawal of personal security provided to him without notice. Mehrotra said the security had been granted to him pursuant to specific directions issued by the High Court of Allahabad (Lucknow Bench) since 2013 on account of his representing the Archaeological Survey of India and the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Ram Janmabhoomi Case.
Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Mehrotra, submitted that the Allahabad High Court in its Order dated September 5, 2013, had stated that the security of such advocates should not be withdrawn, under any circumstances.
Luthra further submitted that the ground for withdrawal of security given by the Delhi Police was that the petitioner was representing Hindu organisations and not the Centre. He also apprised the court about threats face by the petitioner from certain organisations, including terror outfits.
The matter has been listed for further hearing on November 15.
