Delhi High Court seeks response from AAP Communications In-charge on CBI plea against bail in Excise case

The High Court of Delhi issued notice on Thursday to Communications In-charge of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Vijay Nair, along with businessman Abhishek Boinpally, seeking their reply on a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), challenging the bail granted to the duo in a case related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy of 2021-22.

The order was passed by the Single-judge Bench of Justice Yogesh Khanna, which fixed December 5 as the next date of hearing in the matter.

The accused were granted bail by Special judge M.K. Nagpal on November 14.

However, the accused could not come out, as the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) arrested them on November 14 only.

CBI had arrested former CEO of Only Much Louder, Vijay Nair, on September 27 in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy case. He was also remanded to five days CBI custody on the same day.

The proceedings in the case followed the recommendation of a CBI probe,  made by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena into the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22, alleging irregularities in the same.

A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged in the case, after which, the Delhi government announced rollback of the policy.

As per the FIR, Nair and three others were actively involved in the irregularities in framing and implementation of Excise policy.

Boinpally was arrested for allegedly lobbying for certain liquor businessmen based in southern part of the country. According to CBI, Boinpally was part of a conspiracy in pursuance of which, he transferred money through hawala channels to Nair.
