Delhi High Court tells Delhi govt, SDMC to expedite work in 2 hospitals

The petitioner has sought directions to both the respondents to end rift of whatsoever kind between both of them and ensure that the Public Health of the State of NCT of Delhi is guaranteed and take proper measures as to control the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and to function in tandem with one another with expert advice on the subject matter.

The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Government and the South Delhi Municipal Corporation to ensure construction work at SDMC Colony Hospitals at Kalkaji and Tilak Nagar be completed at the earliest keeping in view the urgent requirement of hospital beds amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The directions were passed by the bench headed by Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh on a plea seeking directions for the earliest functioning of 150-bedded medical emergency facilities at SDMC Purnima Sethi Multi-Specialty Hospital at Kalkaji and a 100-bedded medical emergency facility at SDMC Colony Hospital at Tilak Nagar, Delhi.

The petitioner’s counsel, Senior Advocate Garima Prasad, submitted before the Court that both the Hospitals are almost ready. Their construction was to begin in 2005 and were supposed to be finished in three years but work started in 2010 and could only be finished in 2015.
