A Delhi Court on Monday questioned the Delhi Police as why it filed the chargesheet hastily without prior approval from the Delhi government to commence trial in the JNU sedition case involving former JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar and others.

The court’s questioning came after prosecutor informed it that it will take another two to three months for securing prosecution authorization from the competent authority.

Taking note of the prosecutor’s submissions, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sherawat sought a report from the Delhi Police regarding the case and posted the matter for next hearing to Mar 29.

In the previous hearing, the court had told the Delhi govt not to delay the police file seeking approval to initiate proceedings against the accused.

The case pertains to an event organized in Jawaharlal Nehru University in Feb 2016 condemning the hanging of Afzal Guru who plotted 2001 Parliament attack.
