Dengue outbreak: Delhi HC seeks Delhi govt, North Delhi Municipal Corporation response on resident’s plea

The petitioner had further sought to direct the Delhi Government and civic authority, to carry out regular fogging of the area, run door-to-door awareness campaigns and form teams to inspect dengue larvae on the premises.

The Delhi High Court has recently sought the responses of the Delhi Government and the North Delhi Municipal Corporation in a petition preferred by a dengue patient seeking a direction to take necessary measures to control the dengue outbreak in the area surrounding the petitioner’s residence.

The single-judge bench of Justice Rekha Palli listed the matter for further hearing on November 18 upon Delhi Government and the municipal body’s request to file a status report setting out the steps being taken by them.

The petitioner had further sought to direct the Delhi Government and civic authority, to carry out regular fogging of the area, run door-to-door awareness campaigns and form teams to inspect dengue larvae on the premises.

Advocate Anuj Aggarwal and Advocate Akhil Mittal, appearing on behalf of the Delhi Government and the NDMC respectively, submitted that the respondents were already taking necessary and regular steps to ensure the outbreak of dengue was curtailed.

According to the petition, the petitioner was compelled to approach the court as she was living in fear that children and senior citizens of her family may also suffer from dengue fever which can be fatal in their age.

The plea reads:

“That due to inaction by the respondents in controlling the dengue outbreak the petitioner is herself suffering from dengue fever and also many cases of dengue fever are being reported every day from the surrounding area. The petitioner is living in fear that children and senior citizen of her family may also suffer with dengue fever which can be fatal in their age and hospital beds are also filling fast.”
