Fake TRP scam: Bombay High Court berates police for harassment of Hansa, agree to twice-a-week calls

New Delhi (ILNS): The Bombay High Court today was irked by the Maharashtra Police’s harassment of Hansa Research Group officers in the Fake TRP case and agreed that the officials can be called to the police station only twice a week. The company had complained that the police were asking its employees to go to the police station every day.

The two judge bench comprising Justices SS Shinde andMS Karnikheard the case.

Today the court sat to hear Arnab Goswami’s Habeas Corpus petition, the two other accused in the abetment to suicide case, the State, Maharashtra Police and late Anvay’s daughter Adnya Naik, as well as the Hansa Research Group TRP case.

The bench first took up the case of Hansa Research filed in the TRP scam investigation.

Senior advocate C S Vaidyanathan appearing in the Hansa petition apprised the court that Maharashtra police officers are calling Hansa employees every day and forcing them to give statements implicating Republic TV in the TRP scam case.

He further said: “In case they want any document, let them issue summons under Section 91 CrPC. They can’t put us under pressure by calling us every day.”

Senior Advocate Devadatt Kamat, for Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, submitted that the petitioner (Hansa) is playing “hide and seek” with the court.

Kamat claimed that there are materials against the accused and the allegations of C S Vaidyanathan are not fair.

Justice Shinde ordered:  “The person (Hansa) should not be unnecessarily harassed. Make arrangements for calling them only on specific dates. Get instructions on that.

The bench also recorded the submission of Kamat that Hansa officers will be called only on two days in a week for inquiry. Further, the court posted this matter for November 25 and issued a notice on Hansa petition in TRP Scam.
