Five advocates nominated as members of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee

Five advocates have been nominated by the CJI DY Chandrachud as members of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.

On December 23, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA)has recommended the inclusion of the following advocates vide a gazette.

The name of the 5 advocates nominated are:

– Senior Advocate Vibha Datta Makhija;

– Senior Advocate Siddhartha Dave;

– Senior Advocate Aparajita Singh;

– Advocate Mohammad Shoeb Alam; and

– Advocate K Parameshwar Krishnaswamy.

The NALSA has been constituted to provide free Legal Services to the weaker sections of the society and to organize Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

At present, CJI DY Chandrachud is the present Patron-in-Chief while Justice Sanjiv Khanna is serving as the Executive Chairman of NALSA.

On December 29, 2023, Justice BR Gavai was nominated as the Chairman of the Supreme Court legal Services Committee. The post was earlier held by the Supreme Court’s senior most puisne judge, Justice Khanna.
