In the wake of preparations for the upcoming G-20 Summit, which would be held in Delhi on September 9 and 10, the Delhi High Court on Friday issued a circular, declaring September 8 as holiday for the High Court as well as for the subordinate courts coming under its jurisdiction.
The circular said that in lieu of September 8, the High Court would sit on December 16, while the subordinate courts coming under its jurisdiction would sit on December 9, the second Saturday of the last month of 2023.
The cases listed, including the cases in which orders/judgements were reserved before this Court as well as before the courts subordinate to it for hearing on September 8 would be taken up on September 11, in addition to the cases already fixed for the said date.
Earlier on August 24, the Department of Personnel and Training under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India, had issued an office memorandum (OM).
The office memorandum issued by the Central government said, “Recognising the magnitude of this event and the substantial logistical arrangements involved, it has been decided to keep the Central government offices located in Delhi closed from September 8, 2023, to September 10, 2023, on the occasion of G20 summit to be held in Delhi.”
It further said that the event will be attended by a number of heads of state and governments and heads of international organisations.
India will host the 18th meeting of G20 (Group of Twenty) from September 9 to 10 at Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre (IECC), Pragati Maidan, Delhi, situated next to the Supreme Court building. Earlier, the building was known as the ITPO Complex.
The Group of Twenty (G20) is the premier forum for international economic cooperation, which plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. India is holding the Presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2022 and will continue to do so till November 30, 2023.
