Gauhati HC issues notice on PIL seeking setting up of transgender welfare board, transgender cell in Assam

The Gauhati High Court recently issued notice on a PIL alleging that a Transgender Welfare Board and a Transgender Cell are liable to be established in Assam. The PIL has been filed by the All Assam Transgender Association, which is a registered body.

According to the PIL, a Transgender Welfare Board and a Transgender Cell are liable to be established in the State of Assam as per law. All the same, this has not been done.

While considering the PIL, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Soumitra Saikia issued notice to the respondents.

The Bench has directed the respondents to file their reply within three weeks.
