The Gauhati High Court has directed the state government Counsel to take instructions on a plea raising issue regarding the lone playground in Silchar being converted into a shopping hub.
A PIL, filed by one Ali Reja Osmani, drew the High Court’s attention towards the only open place in the neighbourhood – Kol Ghor Ground at Silchar, being converted into a shopping hub. The PIL said this will deprive the children and the local people of their only playground.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak on August 16 directed P. Sarma, Additional Senior Government Advocate, Assam, to get instructions by the next date of hearing, which is August 23.

The Court further asked S. Dutta, Senior Counsel who appeared in the matter, to get instructions in the matter.
Advocate S.B. Laskar appeared for the petitioner, whereas P. Sarma, Additional Senior Government Advocate, Assam, appeared for the state government.
