A local court in Gujarat on Monday convicted self-styled Godman Asaram Bapu in a 10-year-old rape case.
The order was passed by a Sessions court in Gandhinagar, which will pronounce the quantum of sentence tomorrow.
Asaram was convicted under Sections 376 2(C) (rape), 377 (unnatural offences) and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code for illegal detention.
Six other accused in the case, including the wife of Asaram, were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
An FIR was lodged at Chandkheda police station in Ahmedabad against Asaram on the basis of complaint filed by a Surat-based girl in 2013.
The girl had alleged that Asaram repeatedly raped her during 2001 to 2006, when she was living at his ashram in Motera, situated on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.
Asaram was arrested by Jodhpur Police in 2013 and has remained behind the bars since.
