Gujarat High Court disposes of PIL seeking establishment of new court complex for district judiciary in Surat

The Gujarat High Court disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking establishment of a new court complex for District Judiciary at Surat.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Aniruddha P. Mayee held that for the grievance raised in the petition  by the present petitioner, who is a NGO, the appropriate proceedings would be to approach the Collector to identify and provide an adequate piece of land for construction of new court complex.

The Bench noted that the present court complex of District Judiciary, Surat is not in a good condition.

The establishment of the High Court is also taking up the matter seriously with the Collector, Surat, who has not been able to provide any alternate land for construction of new court complex.

The piece of land which is offered by the Collector is not acceptable to the members of the District Bar Association who have agitated the issue with the Principal District Judge, Surat, number of times. In the said scenario, no positive direction can be issued, said the Bench.
