Gauhati High Court orders petitioner to present unresolved traffic issues in PIL

The Gauhati High Court directed a petitioner to submit a presentation regarding the issues which have not been addressed by the concerned respondents.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice Kardak Ete heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the petitioner-in-person raising an important issue regarding the traffic management in the Guwahti City.

The petitioner has also prayed earmarking parking places, and also identifying suitable places for shopkeepers and traders, who are at present operating from the footpaths of Guwahati city.

The High Court has issued several directions from time to time to the respondents and other stakeholders for addressing the problem of traffic in the Guwahati city as well as regarding rehabilitating the hawkers, shopkeepers etc, who are operating from the footpaths of the main roads of the Guwahati city.

From the orders passed by the Court from time to time,the Court noted that some steps have been taken by the respondent authorities to address the issues raised in this PIL petition.

However, as per the petitioner present in person, many issues have remained unresolved, such as, installation of CCTV cameras, scientific study of the road management, identification of suitable parking spaces etc.

The Court deemed it appropriate to request the petitioner in person to submit in brief the issues which have not been resolved so that response can be sought from the concerned respondent(s).

The petitioner-in-person prays for and is granted 3 (three) weeks’ time by the Court to submit a presentation regarding the issues which have not been addressed by the concerned respondents.

A copy of the said presentation be supplied to the counsel for the respondents in advance so that the respondent may file their response to it by the next date of hearing, the Court directed and listed the matter after Six weeks.
