New Delhi (ILNS): On an appeal to appoint more judges, or even re-appoint retired judges to handle the huge pendency of cases, the Supreme Court today commented: “It may appear easy from outside but it is not so.”
The petition, filed by Lok Prahari, came before the bench of Chief Justice S. A. Bobde and Justices A. S. Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian. It has sought appointment of Additional judges in order to avoid pendency of cases in the top court.
Today Senior Counsel Atmaram Nadkarni, appearing on behalf of the Supreme Court Secretary General, sought time to file reply.
Then Justice (Retd) SN Shukla, President of Lok Prahari, submitted that services of retired judges may be availed for hearing regular matters.
At that the bench said: “We will see that. It may appear easy from outside but it is not so.”
The matter has been listed after four weeks, when Nadkarni is to file a reply.
