Higher Education SSC admits mistakes in marks evaluation

The Higher Education Service Selection Commission, Prayagraj has accepted the mistake, before the Allahabad High Court, in the evaluation of OMR seat in assistant professor recruitment.

A single-judge bench of Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh heard the petition filed by Mahendra Kumar Verma.

Upon hearing the counsel for the parties, following order was passed by the High Court on 1.9.2022:-

“Submission of the counsel for the petitioner is, Annexure No 3 is a true copy of student copy of the OMR sheet. According to the marking made thereon, the petitioner ought to have been awarded 155.79 marks with respect to 74 correct responses. However, he has been awarded less marks 153.68 causing his exclusion from the select list.

Gagan Mehta, counsel appearing for respondent nos 2 and 3, prays for and is granted five days’ time to complete instructions and to produce original record pertaining to the petitioner’s answer sheet. Also, remedial action if warranted may be taken, meanwhile.

It has been fairly stated by the counsel for the respondent Commission, the contention advanced by the petitioner is found to be correct, however, a similar mistake has occurred in evaluation of answer sheets of other candidates and answer sheets pertaining to other subjects as well.

“In view of the above, the respondent Commission is running a fine goal to the entire process for preparation of result to ensure all such mistakes are rectified at the same term, before the revised result may be issued. That exercise may take some more time. In view of such a statement made, no purpose survives to keep the petition pending,” the Court observed.

Accordingly, the Court disposed of the petition with a direction to the respondent Commission that it may prepare a revised result as may include therein the correction of the mistake pointed out by the petitioner with respect to marks awarded to him for selection on the post of Assistant Professor (Economics). Needless to add, the petitioner would be allotted marks for 74 correct responses.

Any joining offered in the meanwhile would remain subject to the final result to be declared by the respondent Commission, the Court said.
