Punjab and Haryana High Court disposes of PIL over safety concerns at immigration centres

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed raising public cause that institutes running as Immigration Centres including IELTS institutes in Rajpura, District Patiala, Punjab, are not equipped with the basic necessary equipments including licenses and fire safety norms.

The PIL has been filed by one Pardeep Chaudhary. The petitioner has already made several representations which have remained unredressed.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal  held that it would be appropriate that the authorities should first apply their mind before the Court enters for adjudication of the petition.

Accordingly, without commenting upon the merits of the case, the Court disposed the petition with direction to the respondents to consider and decide the representations made by the petitioner, by passing a speaking order, and if the grievance raised by the petitioner is found to be true, the remedial steps be taken as per law; as expeditiously as possible preferably within a period of two months.
