The Special CBI court on Thursday allowed Indrani Mukerjea to turn approver in the INX Media case in which former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram are facing charges.

CBI Judge Arun Bhardwaj kept the matter for next hearing to July 11 and told Mukerjea to appear in person. The Judge also allowed pardon application filed by Mukerjea.

The probe agencies — Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation — are investigating how former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti secured permission for INX Media from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in 2007 during the tenure of his father.

Mukerjea is currently imprisoned in Mumbai’s Byculla jail in connection with the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora.

P Chidambaram has got interim protection from arrest while his son Karti is out on regular bail in the case.
