Indrani Mukerjea on Thursday appeared before a CBI Court and recorded her statement to become approver in the INX Media case involving former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his son MP Karti Chidambaram.

Mukerjea appearing before Special CBI Judge Arun Bhardwaj recorded her statement under section 161 CrPC.

On July 4, the court permitted Mukherjee’s plea seeking to become an approver. The court had also allowed the pardon application filed by her.

The probe agencies — Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation — are investigating how former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti secured permission for INX Media from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in 2007 during the tenure of his father.

Mukerjea is currently imprisoned in Mumbai’s Byculla jail in connection with the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora.

P Chidambaram has got interim protection from arrest while his son Karti is out on regular bail in the case.
