A local court in the national capital on Tuesday said that it did not find any specific reason to cancel the bail granted to Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam case.
However, the Rouse Avenue Court of Special Judge Geetanjali Goel directed Tejashwi to be more careful with his choice of words and with the statements he made in public.
Counsel DP Singh, representing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), argued that a day after becoming the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Tejashwi had attempted to subvert the process of law and thwart the entire investigation as well as the consequent trial, and blatantly abused the liberty granted to him.
Maninder Singh, appearing for Yadav, argued that he did not violate any condition set in the bail granted to him earlier.
The Counsel for Yadav alleged that since he was raising questions on wrongdoing of the ruling government as an Opposition leader, both CBI and ED were being ‘misused’ by the current dispensation against him and others to suppress their voices. He claimed that opposition parties felt the same.
He said since he was a public figure and had to answer the questions put up by the media, this was what he did at that particular press conference. He said Tejashwi was a public figure and therefore, had the right to reputation.
Representing CBI, Counsel DP Singh contended that the particular press conference took place a day after Tejashwi became the Deputy CM.
The court, while refusing to cancel the bail granted to Tejashwi, said a detailed order will be passed later.
In October 2018, Yadav was granted bail after he appeared before the court in pursuance to the summons issued against him in the matter related to alleged irregularities in granting operational contract of two Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) hotels to a private firm.
