Jammu and Kashmir High Court disposes of PIL over recruitment issues in Ladakh

The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has disposed of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by gazette aspirants and residents of Ladakh, concerning the non-recruitment to gazetted cadre posts in the Union Territory of Ladakh over the past five years.

The petitioners had sought the intervention of the court, citing significant distress and uncertainty among the educated youth of Ladakh due to the lack of recruitment.

According to the petitioners, a high-powered committee, chaired by the Union Minister and attended by representatives from the Leh and Kargil regions, had assured that recruitment to the gazetted cadre posts in the Union Territory of Ladakh would commence promptly.

However, despite this assurance, the recruitment process had not begun, leading to the filing of the PIL.

The Srinagar Division Bench of Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice M A Chowdhary after considering the submissions made by the petitioners, found it appropriate to dispose of the PIL, as the authorities had acknowledged and were taking steps to resolve the grievances of the petitioners.

However, the court granted liberty to the petitioners to seek revival of the PIL if their grievances remained unresolved.
